Note in the Pocket Welcomes New Executive Director

Dear Note in the Pocket Community,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are thrilled to announce that Megan Steinke-Chase has been selected as the next Executive Director of Note in the Pocket.

Through a thoughtful and comprehensive search process, the Board recognizes Megan as an exceptional leader whose experience, values, and vision align closely with our mission of providing clothing to children and families with dignity and love. We are confident that she is the right person to lead Note in the Pocket into its next chapter of growth and impact.

Megan brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. Throughout her career, she has successfully led strategy, operations, fundraising partnerships, organizational development, and community engagement initiatives at both national and global levels. Most recently, she served in senior leadership roles with Save the Children, where she guided collaboration in more than 100 countries working with millions of children, and their communities and partners to ensure that children around the world survive, learn and are protected.

Her track record demonstrates a unique ability to translate vision into measurable results for children and organizations. Megan has strengthened organizational effectiveness, designed and delivered programming with children, managed multimillion-dollar partnerships, built high-performing teams, and developed systems that align strategy, funding, and outcomes. She is widely respected for her collaborative leadership style and her ability to guide organizations through periods of growth and change while strengthening transparency, accountability, and impact.

What excites us most is how Megan’s professional expertise is matched by her deep commitment to children and local communities. Since returning to North Carolina, she has been actively engaged in supporting families across the Triangle and building relationships that strengthen community connections. Her passion for serving children and families aligns perfectly with Note in the Pocket’s mission and values and she brings a unique appreciation for the power of clothing to build confidence and opportunity.

As we welcome Megan, we also extend our gratitude to our staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters who make our work possible every day.

We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to Dallas Bonavita for her extraordinary leadership and unwavering dedication to Note in the Pocket. Over more than a decade of service, she helped transform a small volunteer-driven effort into a thriving organization that now serves thousands of children and families each year. Her vision, compassion, and commitment to treating every child with dignity and love have shaped the culture and impact of Note in the Pocket in lasting ways. We are profoundly grateful for all she has given to this organization and the community we serve.

Please join us in welcoming Megan Steinke-Chase as the next Executive Director of Note in the Pocket. We look forward to the vision, energy, and expertise she will bring as we continue working toward a future where every child has the clothing they need to thrive.

With gratitude,

Jeremy Petranka

“What excites me most about joining Note in the Pocket is the opportunity to combine my lifelong commitment to children’s rights with a mission that is rooted so deeply in dignity and love. I have seen firsthand the difference clothing can make in a child’s confidence, health, and ability to fully participate in school and community life. I also believe that good quality, gently-used clothing can play a major part in this, not only increasing clothing security but also creating a more sustainable world for children to grow up in. Over the past 10 years living in the Triangle, I have watched Note in the Pocket grow and develop through the compassion and commitment of volunteers, donors, schools, and families. I am honored to join this community, to build on Note in the Pocket’s extraordinary foundation and continue expanding its impact for children and families across North Carolina.”
