Did you know Note in the Pocket’s roots are right here in Durham County? It all started in 2005 when a local Title 1 elementary school teacher noticed her kindergarten students lacked basic winter clothing for recess. What began as one educator’s vision to make a difference has since flourished into serving thousands of children across our region. We are incredibly proud of our Durham beginnings!
To serve our community even better, we opened the doors to our Durham, NC volunteer center in January 2024. If you have been looking for where to donate gently used clothes in Durham County, Note in the Pocket is the perfect place to make a direct local impact. We accept gently used and new school-appropriate clothing in all sizes—from infant through adult, to ensure every child is given their basic needs to succeed academically and socially.
Whether you are here to donate clothing, make a monetary donation, volunteer or learn, you are helping us take a massive step toward ending clothing insecurity for families right here at home.

Serving Durham County
All children deserve to enter the classroom dressed for academic success.
In 2023, 2 out of 5 children in the United States face clothing insecurity. Currently, there is no federal or statewide funding, and few organizations address this issue on a large scale. Note in the Pocket is meeting a growing, critical need. We work with local agencies, school districts, teachers, and social workers to identify students without the proper clothing and provide two weeks worth of clothing and shoes. Our partners share story after story about what a difference new clothes can make in a student’s confidence, sense of self-worth, and overall well-being.
