Note in the Pocket has been serving local families for over two decades! Our mission began in 2005, and by 2011 we officially became a non-profit organization to better meet the growing needs of our community. Thanks to incredible local support, we expanded into our Raleigh Volunteer Center in the fall of 2021, allowing us to process and distribute more clothing than ever before.
If you have been looking for where to donate gently used clothes in Wake County, Note in the Pocket is the perfect place to make a direct local impact. We accept school-appropriate clothing in all sizes—from infant through adult, to ensure every child can go to school with the confidence they need to succeed. Every single item donated is provided completely free of charge to the children and families we serve through our referral network.

All children deserve to enter the classroom dressed for academic success.
During the 2024–2025 school year, 2 out of 5 students (42%) in Wake County qualified for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating their families are living below or near the poverty level. Despite this widespread, critical need, there is zero federal or statewide funding addressing clothing insecurity on a large scale. Note in the Pocket is stepping in to fill this gap right here at home.
We partner with local agencies, school districts, teachers, and social workers across the county to identify students who lack proper apparel, providing them with two full weeks’ worth of weather and school-appropriate clothing and shoes free of charge. Our community partners share story after story about the immediate transformation this makes, giving Wake county students a profound boost in confidence, self-worth, and well-being.
