Note in the Pocket provides donated and purchased clothing to impoverished and homeless children and their families in Wake County.
“Our goal is to provide these children with a full wardrobe of matching, stylish, school-appropriate clothing so they have the confidence needed to succeed in the academic environment.”
*Starting March 23rd, Note in the Pocket will be closed and not accepting clothing donations until further notice (This includes all of our drop-off locations below). We will determine when to resume operations based on what is safe for our staff, volunteers and community. We appreciate your understanding and support during this time! Have a look at our official statement here!
Virtual Clothing Drives
Are you using this time to clean out your closets? We are thankful for the outpouring of community support during the COVID-19 stay at home orders. We ask that you sort donations into the following categories and labeling the outside of the bag:
- Spring/summer school appropriate clothing
- Fall/winter school appropriate clothing
- High quality non-school appropriate clothing (items that could be consigned to raise funds for clothing we need to purchase)
- Remission or recycle clothing (items that have stains, tears or rips, used socks or underwear)
- Place all shoes in a separate bag from clothing
We will provide updates once our Donation Center is open again and we are able to accept clothing donations. Thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

How Can You Help?
Your donation of unworn or gently used school-appropriate clothing goes a long way! New and gently used shoes and clothing of all sizes are accepted for donation, but the items most useful to our students are clothing items in size 5T through adult, for our adult size students. To make the greatest impact, visit our Wish List page for our most needed items or contact us and ask to serve as a “Fairy Godmother or Godfather” to receive a text message when we have an urgent clothing need that you may be able to assist with.
Don’t have any school clothes to share? Your financial donation will enable us to purchase new items in our most needed sizes. Thank you for your help!
Please note: While we are happy to issue receipts for tax purposes, we cannot assign a monetary value to your clothing donations. The IRS advises that it is up to the donor to estimate the fair market value of a donation. Donated shoes and clothing will be processed and evaluated for suitability to our use and will be used at our discretion to best further our mission to clothe children with dignity and love.
*Donation/tax receipts are currently available only at our Volunteer Center in Raleigh. If you drop off donations to another location (or afterhours) and need a receipt, please contact us and we can provide one.
A list of alternate drop-off locations is provided below. We are always looking for opportunities to add new drop-off locations to our list! Due to space constraints, business locations are for family donations only. Group collections or high-volume donations must be brought to our Volunteer Center at 5100 Lacy Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27609.
In addition to clothing there are a number of supplies that are needed for storage and organization in our facility. Please visit our Wish List for our most needed items or contact us. You can also support our mission by providing supplies for one of our special events such as our Socks and Undie 5K Rundie. Please visit our Socks & Undie 5K Rundie page to learn more. Thank you for your support!
